I regularly refer people to the website Mark’s Daily Apple. His most recent post,’ Top 7 Most Common Reactions to Your High-Fat Diet‘, is a great example of why! Check out also his equivalent post on grains.
Mark also offers two free e-books in which most of the recipes are GAPS-friendly or very close to it. Find a link to those on this blog’s Recipes page here: http://gapsguide.com/2009/03/06/scd-recipes/ Look under that page’s subheading ‘Primal’.
I love Mark’s Daily Apple–especially his ideas about how to respond to people’s questions about my “strange” diet! One way we can make our lives less stressful is by learning some of these simple non-confrontational ways to respond to the reactions of others so that we do not feel the need to defend our choices or convert others who are not ready.
Hi, I am new to this website and am trying to get in touch with Baden Lashkov. Does anyone know her email address or how I can get in touch with her.
Hi Tony,
Welcome! This is Baden. The usual and best way to reach me is via this site, where I provide answers and support regarding GAPS as my time permits, and also respond to questions and comments regarding the content of the GAPS Guide book.
Any questions relating to book distribution, etc, should be directed to the distributor via nutrivene.com
All my best,
Baden
Hi Baden! Thank you for the quick reply. I have started the gaps diet and have been trying to explain it to my fiancee who is Russian and does not speak English fluently yet. So I have been trying to find the GAPS book in Russian for her, but have not had any success yet and was told that you may be able to help me. Tony
Hi Tony,
The GAPS Guide book is, unfortunately, not translated into Russian and I don’t know whether or not Dr. Natasha’s book Gut and Psychology Syndrome is available in Russian. In any case, there are still great resources for your fiancee! Check out Dr. Natasha’s website at gaps.me. At the top right of the site is a row of various countries’ flags. Clicking on these brings up a corresponding translation of the site. One of those options is Russian. Also, Dr. Natasha herself is originally from Russia and may also be able to provide a Russian-language consultation if needed down the line.
All my best,
Baden
Hi Baden, Thank you for the information and advice . We all seem to be on this same journey together which is comforting to know. Also I went to Dr. Natasha’s website and emailed them the same question. So hopefully someone will reply soon.
I am not getting any of these links to work.
Thank you Baden! I especially like the recipes. I haven’t really embraced paleo eating yet, though it’s been on my list of things to get to – just like ferments once were (and they’re just what we do now). Anyhow, Banh Mi Vietnamese sandwiches have been a favorite of mine for a long time, since growing up in San Jose amid lots of Vietnamese people and restaurants. I am thrilled to find a salad version and will try it soon.
Thank you for introducing me to Mark’s work and for helping me find a new version of an old favorite.
Cheers,
Seanain
Hi Baden,
juts wanted to hear your opinion. I am on the diet for over two year and at the point of slowly recovering from sever flare-up. Not even there, but better then it was. I found myself with the dilemma: I do not seem to tolerate well meat anymore. But rather would prefer stocks, some fat, vegetables, sometimes sour cream and bone marrows, rarely livers, some fish, little meat very very rare, eggs. It does not fit into the stages and I try to be again on stage three now. The question is it is still considered to be healing or it is more cleansing and no heal happens during that time. During the flare up it was suggested to go to stage one but it was very different from what I used to feel on stage one two years ago so I had to adjust after two months to more veggies, less meat even gelatinous, etc. As I could not do it. Thank you in advance, Marina
Hi Marina,
At this point in your GAPS journey, you are exactly right to follow your body’s lead. There is no need to eat meat regularly. You are getting excellent nutrition from the stocks, fats, veggies, sour cream, marrow, eggs, etc. Most of these (all but veggies) are building (vs cleansing) foods.
All my best,
Baden
Thank you, Baden! It does feel like, though, the main emphasize is on the raw juicing, mainly vegetables, little fish, some stock, little fat, so in my view it became more like a cleansing thing. I guess it might be time. I was shocked by the change and decided that i am not building, – healing anymore…Did you go through such times or someone you know of? Of course, I read dr. Natasha’s blog on feeding vs. cleansing. But such a drastic change with me – overnight.
Thanks for your comments and support
Hi Marina,
I think you’re right on track with this!
I believe it was my second summer on GAPS that I found myself eating copious raw veggies and very, very little meat. I just went with it. I felt great! In the fall I naturally gravitated again toward warm, rich, protein foods. It felt like an “overnight” thing for me then, too.
All my best,
Baden
